Chemical peeling, otherwise known as chemical exfoliation involves applying a chemical substance to the skin, intentionally causing damage to the surface layers of skin, without affecting the skin underneath. This enables a controlled skin regeneration, thereby improving overall skin appearance and texture. To achieve this goal is the use of chemical peels (mixtures or single acids for exfoliation). Chemical peels are of various types – each with a unique pH Lebel, application method, and time. They can be categorised into three categories; superficial, medium, and deep.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?
Our therapists at CURVZ tailor your peel treatments according to your skin concerns, and lifestyle. Your skin is prepped accordingly before the peel. During a chemical peel, the area will be thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated to remove any impurities or makeup. The peel is applied to the area using gauze and is then left on the skin for up to 10 minutes before being neutralised and removed. During the peel you will experience some tingly on the skin, as the peel works you may receive some reddening on the skin. The following few days you may notice a dryer skin surface and some shedding.
TYPES OF COSMECEUTICAL PEELS
LACTIC PEEL
A lactic acid chemical peel works on the upmost layers of skin. Characterised as a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), it is derived from sour milk and is used for the mildest, most gentle of chemical peels. Recommended for dry, mature and sensitive skin types to hydrate and soften, leaving the skin feeling smooth.
GLYCOLIC PEEL
A 40% Glycolic Acid peel to soften fine lines, wrinkles, hydrate the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin. Also recommended for mild photo damage and acne.This alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) is mainly derived from fruits and is a member of the carboxylic acid family. In AHAs, the hydroxyl group is attached to the alpha position of the molecule. AHAs include glycolic acid from sugar cane, lactic acid from milk, and citric acid from citrus fruits.
REVEAL PEEL
A powerful blend of 35% AHA/BHA. Recommended for mild skin pigmentation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and UV damage. Improves skin texture and helps to restore a fresh, smooth, more youthful radiance to the skin
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
We recommend having 6 peel treatments at 2-4 week intervals. This should be followed by maintenance treatments every few months. Results can last for years, depending on how well you care for your skin afterwards.

PRE AND POST CARE INFORMATION
Immediately following a chemical peel treatment your skin will be slightly flushed. We recommend that makeup is not applied on the skin for 12 hours afterwards. Depending on the type of peel you may experience very mild through to moderate skin shedding from day 2-7. We advise that you do not prematurely pick at or exfoliate the dead skin as this may cause scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation. Once the skin peeling is complete you will see a dramatic improvement in your skin’s complexion. Over the next four to six weeks the skin’s appearance will be enhanced further. The skin will look more vibrant, clearer, firmer, and healthier.
