Vertical Lip Lines

As we age, the loss of collagen around the lips and mouth can give rise to smokers’ lines. Of course you may never have had a cigarette in your life, so often the lines above the upper lip is also called vertical lip lines or barcode lines. Treatment for vertical lip lines include muscle relaxant, dermal filler and collagen induction therapies such as skin needling or even ablative laser resurfacing.

The client below had a combination muscle relaxant and filler treatment.

The muscle relaxant treatment is called a lip flip which reduces the active upper lip lines when you purse your lips. The main issue however for the lady below was the volume loss in the upper lip. This is where dermal filler provides support and structure to the upper lip tissue.

Dermal fillers have very different characteristics such as particle size, thickness, stickiness, concentration and longevity. The upper lip is moving all the time so a soft and flexible product is used for vertical lip lines. This result was accomplished over two treatment sessions.
